Werewolves
![]() Werewolf With the advent of motion pictures in the early part of the 20th century the werewolf, and the various legends of these terrifying shape-shifters, became a staple for horror films. One of the most famous early werewolf films starred Lon Chaney Jr. and was called “The Wolf Man”. Where did these legends of humans who could turn into a wolf-like shape come from? Legends of shape-shifters have been around for as long as humanity has walked the earth. Tales of humans who could turn into wolf-like creatures that had a savage blood lust and preference for human flesh—who roamed the nights under cover of darkness seeking some poor unwary victim, have existed since time immemorial. What gave humanity the idea that such creatures existed in the first place? Most any legend or myth has some basis in fact; and many tales, as well as numerous theories, abound about this supernatural creature. Amazingly enough, there are still reports of strange, wolf-like creatures walking on two legs being made by credible witnesses—the most recent report being made in 2007 right here in the USA in the state of Illinois! If these reports are true then it would seem that a serious rethinking of what is “real” and what is “normal” is in order. Perhaps what has been viewed as the superstitions of backward and uneducated village peasants of past centuries should be reexamined and approached with a more open frame of mind. Indeed, the lack of belief so predominate in today's ultra-modern world would be such a creature's greatest ally in the great game of survival. It is a certainty that with all of the disappearances and mysterious attacks resulting in a gruesome death, that happen every single day, that not all of them could be commited by even the most prolific serial killer. Many of these cases are never reported in the mainstream media. Of course, if it were to come to light that werewolves truly exist, then several questions spring to mind. “What other creatures, long thought to be myth and fantasy, live among us?” “What about vampires, bogeymen, and other things that go bump in the night?” Do you really want to know? You just might want to hang some garlic bulbs around your windows and keep some silver bullets handy—you never know when you just might need them. Good-night and pleasant dreams.
