Vampires: Fact or Fiction?
![]() Vampire There seems to be as many types of vampires as there are cultures who have spawned tales of these fearsome creatures. The most recognized in today's modern world is the revenant, or the blood drinking corpse, who wanders about draining his or her victims of blood in order to survive. This particular type of vampire has been used countless times in books and movies. One of the most famous of these is the ever popular Dracula written by Bram Stoker in the 1800s. The movie and television industries have certainly made use of the vampire by glamorizing this creature and giving it a definite sexual allure. It is this image that is so seductivefor many people drawn to this dark idea of immortality. Another sort of vampire which is much harder to notice and is not nearly as well known is the type that is not an undead revenant but more like a ghost or spirit that drains the life energy from any human being it manages to come into contact with. This type of vampire is sometimes described as appearing as a mist or fog and rarely takes any other form. ![]() Devil There is a disease that does cause a strange blood lust that causes the sufferer to actually crave blood. Often these afflicted people will drink small amounts of blood that they, sometimes, obtain through willing donors—but this a very dangerous practice and can result in the contraction of blood borne diseases. So, are vampires real? The answer is yes and no. Nature has all kinds of vampires—ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, the vampire bat, etc. Humanity has those who are 'wanna-bes' in that never ending desire for immortality most of us share. Does the undead walk among us? In this world of amazing wonders and mystifying occurences it is better to keep an open mind. For who knows? It just might be safer to keep the garlic close at hand; and perhaps a good sharp wooden stake.
