Poltergeists: Do They Exist And What Are They?
![]() Poltergeists Often strange disembodied voices are heard. These voices are usually reported to sound like the murmuring of many people coming from far away. Sometimes people report that there is what sounds like something big clawing on the walls, or high pitched screams coming out of thin air. A common theory by many scientists and skeptics says that any poltergeist activity that they can't prove to be fraudulent has a simple physical and rational explanation such as high EM fields or even plain old static electricity. Some even think that such activity can be caused by ionized air. However, there have been several cases, like the Rosenheim poltergeist case, that no “rational” explanation was ever found to be the cause of some very unusual activity. F. Karger, a physicist from the Max-Planck-Institute for Plasmaphysics, and his investigative partner, named G. Zicha, who was from the Technical University of Munich, found that when they investigated this case there were none of the aforementioned effects present and no evidence of fraud was ever found, even after there was a rather long and drawn-out investigation from the police force and CID. Several police officers signed affidavits that they had witnessed several instances of the poltergeist phenomena. Many aspects of this particular case were very difficult to explain. The time service received hundreds of calls on a frequency that was utterly impossible with the basic rotary dialing phones available in 1967. The city authorities disconnected the office from the main electrical supply and hooked it up to a basic generator hoping to stabilize the electrical current—it didn't work. Large surges in the electrical current, as well as the voltage, kept on happening with no logical cause or reason. Many people believe that poltergeist activity is caused by more normal and natural phenomena, like uncommon air currents, heavy air vibrations, or light tremors caused by underground streams. These theories are not in anyway complete, because while they may give viable reasons for the movement of objects it does not account for the strange voices, calwign sounds, screams, the seeming personality, and the weird and unusual electrical effects that have been displayed in some cases.
